Corporations and insurance companies seem to have all of us by the sack. Just little slaves we are. If you get sick or have Emphysema as I do, the short term/long term disability you have and help pay for, yeah, that's it, you just pay for it. You wont get it when you need it. I got disability from Sedgwick CMS for about 10 weeks and just before FMLA is up tomorrow, they decided I can work. My doctor says I can't and I know I can't. I didn't even make it to long term that I paid for out of my check. Seems that insurance companies are involved in theft of employer and employee money cause they sure don't pay when needed. Now I loose my oxygen machine and medications cause I loose my medical coverage and the replacement income for my family. Now I will be a pre existing case to another insurance company and may not be covered. I wasn't even offered a different position in the company before closing my claim. I wrote to Senator Hutcheson to ask that legislation be formed and passed to protect us from such theft of all that we thought we would have if needed. I'm sure that will be thrown aside. Our congress doesn't seem to help the people. Can you imagine how many people have been affected this same way? I think it will continue because we wont do anything about it. If it doesn't affect you it's not a big deal, till it happens to you.
My advice would be to not pay for long term insurance and don't plan on being out of work more than 12 weeks even if it looks like the rest of your life. You will not be paid. I know if I took your money and made promises to pay you when needed and didn't, I would be on the news and thrown away like a smelly sock.

I would report this to the Department of Insurance or even better contact the agent who helped get your disability insurance placed. If you get the right people involved this should be handled properly.
ReplyDeleteWith that said. We you do get back to work, pre-existing conditions are not a problem if you are part of a group policy, these can be offered by your employer, or you can start your own company and get a group policy that way.
